How to install Windows 10 on Mac Systems

Boot Camp Assistant

You can install Windows 10 on a Mac using two main methods:

✅ Option 1: Boot Camp Assistant (Intel Macs Only)
Boot Camp is Apple’s official tool to install Windows alongside macOS. This works only on Intel-based Macs — not Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3).

🧰 Requirements:
Intel-based Mac

At least 64 GB free space on your internal drive

Windows 10 ISO file (Download from Microsoft)

USB drive (for older Macs; newer ones don’t need it)

🚀 Steps:
1. Download Windows ISO
Go to Microsoft's website

Select version → Download ISO

2. Open Boot Camp Assistant
Found in Applications > Utilities > Boot Camp Assistant

It will guide you through partitioning and installing Windows.

3. Set Partition Size
Decide how much space to allocate to Windows (minimum 64 GB, ideally 100+ GB).

4. Install Windows
Select the Windows ISO

Boot Camp will reboot your Mac and start Windows setup.

5. Complete Windows Setup
Choose language, region, etc.

Enter license key (can skip and activate later)

After setup, Boot Camp will install drivers for Apple hardware.

🎯 Result:
Your Mac will dual-boot macOS and Windows. Hold Option (⌥) at startup to choose between them.

🚫 Not for Apple Silicon Macs
Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Macs cannot use Boot Camp. For those, use virtualization:

✅ Option 2: Virtual Machine (VM) — For All Macs
Works on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

🧰 Tools You Can Use:
Parallels Desktop (best for Apple Silicon; official Windows ARM support)

UTM (free, open-source alternative, works with ARM)

VMware Fusion or VirtualBox (Intel Macs)

💻 How It Works:
Download a Windows 10 ISO (for Intel Macs) or Windows 10 ARM64 VHDX (for Apple Silicon via Insider Preview).

Create a new VM using your tool of choice.

Configure CPU, RAM, and storage.

Install Windows inside the virtual environment.

📝 Notes:
Windows in a VM won’t support all apps that require direct hardware access (like some games).

Parallels officially supports Windows 11 ARM on Apple Silicon — smooth, fast, and optimized.

Windows ARM can run x86 and x64 apps, but with some performance differences.
