How To Router as WiFi Access Point WiFi Range

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sure! If you want to use a router as a WiFi Access Point (AP) to extend your WiFi range, here’s a simple step-by-step guide:

What is a WiFi Access Point?

A WiFi Access Point takes a wired network connection and broadcasts it wirelessly, creating a new WiFi hotspot. Using a second router as an AP can improve coverage, especially in large homes or offices.

How to Set Up a Router as a WiFi Access Point

Requirements:

  • Your main router (connected to the internet)

  • A second router (to become the AP)

  • Ethernet cable to connect both routers

Step 1: Reset the Second Router (Optional but recommended)

  • If it has previous settings, reset it to factory defaults.

Step 2: Connect to the Second Router

  • Connect your computer to the second router via Ethernet or WiFi.

  • Access its admin panel by typing its IP address in a browser (usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).

Step 3: Change the IP Address of the Second Router

  • Change the LAN IP of the second router to an unused IP within your main router’s subnet (for example, if your main router IP is 192.168.1.1, set the second router to 192.168.1.2).

  • Make sure it does not conflict with your main router or any other devices.

Step 4: Disable DHCP on the Second Router

  • Turn off the DHCP server in the second router settings.

  • This lets your main router assign IP addresses to all devices.

Step 5: Set Up WiFi on the Second Router

  • Configure the WiFi SSID and password (you can use the same SSID/password as your main router for seamless roaming or set a different one).

  • Choose the same WiFi security type (WPA2 is recommended).

Step 6: Connect the Two Routers via Ethernet Cable

  • Use an Ethernet cable to connect a LAN port on the main router to a LAN port on the second router.

  • Do NOT use the WAN port on the second router for this setup.

Step 7: Test the Setup

  • Connect your device to the second router’s WiFi.

  • Check internet access and signal strength.

  • Move around the area to confirm improved WiFi coverage.
